What is Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign treatment is the process of wearing a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth.

How will Invisalign treatment straighten my teeth?

Dr. Buchwald will create a unique, digital treatment plan that maps out the exact movements of your teeth. He will then design each Invisalign clear aligner to apply the right amount of force to the right places on your teeth at the right time of the treatment sequence.

What are the primary benefits of Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign clear aligners are virtually invisible, people may not even notice you’re wearing them. You can remove them to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As a result, there aren’t the food restrictions that you would have with braces. You can take them off for special occasions, like a wedding or job interview, or for playing your favorite sport or instrument. There are no metal brackets or wires that could irritate your mouth or break if you bite down on a very hard/crunchy piece of food.

How often will I change my aligners?

Dr. Buchwald will have you change to new aligners either weekly or every other week based on you individual treatment plan and the precise tooth movements that are occurring in order to align your teeth.

How many hours per day should I wear my aligners?

For best results, wear your Invisalign clear aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out just for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

Can I get Invisalign treatment on just my top or bottom teeth instead of both?

Invisalign treatment options are available for just top or bottom teeth. At your consultation, Dr. Buchwald will discuss your individual treatment goals and needs.

What are "attachments" and why would I need them for my Invisalign treatment?

Attachments are small tooth-colored shapes that are attached to your teeth. They are made out of the same composite material that is used to glue actual braces onto teeth. These shapes serve as handles, giving the aligners something to gently push on in order to move your teeth with the right amount of force. The Invisalign aligners fit smoothly and tightly around them, so they’re barely noticeable. Once treatment is finished, Dr. Buchwald will remove the attachments in the same way that he would remove the glue from your teeth if you were treated with braces. Not everyone who is treated with Invisalign will need to have attachments on their teeth. At your initial consultation, Dr. Buchwald will discuss the option of placing some attachments on your teeth if he determines they could benefit your particular case.
